Melissa is a Creative Mentor at Emerge. She makes analogue and digital photographs and sculpture, starting with the notion that ‘the camera never lies’ (César Romero). Highlighting the building blocks of photography, her work is about the actual and imagined, colour, trace and the passage of time. She considers whether anything can be ‘real’ in photography. Melissa holds a PhD from BSU. Her sculptures are colourful/playful observations. They often involve ‘ready-mades’, drawing attention to joy in the act of looking. Melissa exhibits in group and solo shows internationally, and her work has won multiple awards. She gives workshops about Creative Block, Artist Opportunities, Cyanotypes and Photoshop.
